Prime Minister Rama Highlights Future Technologies for Young Albanians at International Congress on Nanotechnology

For the fifth consecutive year, Tirana became the meeting point for Europe’s scientific community and beyond at the “NanoBalkan 2025” event. This international scientific activity focuses on nanoscience and nanotechnology. It is organized by the NanoBalkan Academy of Sciences of Albania and the Susnano Project of the University of Tirana. The event is held in close cooperation with the Institute of Nanotechnology in Spain (ICN2) and the Phantoms Foundation in Spain.
Today, more than 250 participants, including distinguished nanotechnology scientists, gathered at the Congress. The Congress aims to highlight the most important global achievements in nanoscience and nanotechnology. It also aims to create opportunities for policy development and the establishment of contacts, networks, and collaborations that are vital for further advances in this field.
Prime Minister Edi Rama was present at the opening session, stating: “Today, we find ourselves at a new dawn for Albania. We are a nation that dares to lead at the forefront of science and technology in this region.” He emphasized: “We will allocate more resources, implement institutional reforms, and invest in human capital to develop a nanotechnology ecosystem anchored in Tirana and expanding not only across the region, but beyond.”
The Prime Minister informed participants that several Albanian universities are designing interdisciplinary programs in digital systems and artificial intelligence, and will soon offer programs in nanosciences as well. “Within the next decade, we envision a future where every young Albanian aspiring to study the technologies of the future will have the opportunity to do so at home. We will seek partnerships with European universities and research institutes to ensure that our curricula align with the highest international standards. This work has already begun, and we are now seeing the first results. Likewise, we are seeing encouraging initial results. This investment in education is not only about producing scientists and engineers, but also about creating a space for people to think innovatively and forming a generation of innovators who will advance the Albanian economy, industry, and governance.” – Prime Minister Rama stated.
The five-day Congress will feature plenary sessions and parallel sections based on current and innovative themes. The Congress aims to strengthen scientific cooperation in this field at the broadest possible level.
