Minister Sala Highlights Increased Preparedness at the National Emergency Center for the Holiday Season
For the holiday season, the National Medical Emergency Center has expanded its operational capabilities. Increased travel and higher flows necessitate a prompt reaction, which is a critical component of public safety. During her visit to the center, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Evis Sala observed the real-time operation of the 127 call coordination system, case flow management, and the readiness of ambulances and motor ambulances in high-risk locations.
The minister noted that the medical emergency service collaborates closely with security entities to respond quickly to any emergency. “Our primary objective is to respond to every call as soon as possible and provide aid to every citizen, no matter where they are. This commitment ensures uninterrupted healthcare services and a smooth festive season,” Sala stated.
Skënder Brataj, the Director of the National Medical Emergency Center, explained how the coordination unit functions. This unit monitors ambulance movements at all times and performs case coding for immediate prioritization. He also discussed the maximum emergency room, which is used during critical situations, such as earthquakes and pandemics. It can be activated instantly in extraordinary situations. Brataj presented the training hall, where over 10,000 trainings have been conducted, and announced that a similar center will soon open in Vlora.
Over the past decade, the National Emergency Center has handled around 3.5 million calls and carried out over 800,000 home missions. Thanks to a new fleet of ambulances equipped with modern medical devices, the Center has tripled its capacities. Teams remain on full alert 24/7.
Minister Sala praised the staff for their professionalism and crucial role in the functioning of the healthcare system. The center called on citizens to dial 127 for any medical emergency to ensure full coverage and the highest service standards throughout the festive season.
