Minister Karakaçi Announces Approval of €100 Million Investment for “Gateway to the Alps” in Shkodër
The government approved a major infrastructure investment package for the Shkodër region, known as the “Gateway to the Alps” project, valued at €100 million.
Enea Karakaçi, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, stated that the financing will be secured through a combination of funds. The European Investment Bank will provide €50 million, and the state budget will cover the remaining €50 million.
The program includes the rehabilitation of urban squares, the reconstruction of boulevards, and the creation of multifunctional centers to improve public spaces and the quality of life for citizens.
Another important component of the project focuses on developing infrastructure links that connect the Velipoja coast, Lake Shkodër, the Buna River, and the Malësia e Madhe and Albanian Alps areas. These connections will enhance regional connectivity.
The project includes investments in water supply and sewage networks, urban transportation, and pollution management to support sustainable development.
According to the minister, this agreement establishes an integrated corridor between the Alps and the Adriatic coast for the first time, paving the way for year-round tourism, strengthening the region’s economic potential, and improving infrastructure, access, and public services for Shkodër county residents.
