Work Continues on “Lungomare 4” in Vlora as Another Segment of the Seaside Promenade Nears Completion
The seaside promenade Lungomare 4 is another active construction site. Work is continuously progressing to improve the quality of public spaces in the city’s most promising tourist areas. This area is popular with domestic and foreign visitors, who are coming to Albania not only for seasonal vacations, but also to invest in real estate.
Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Vlora, where he began the day by inspecting the progress of the project, accompanied by Mayor Brunilda Mersini and Dritan Agolli, the Director of the Albanian Development Fund (ADF).
Agolli presented the project details and explained that “Lungomare 4” is an extension of the existing promenade on the western side, initially measuring approximately 500 linear meters. The project includes the construction of a 7-meter-wide promenade and a 2-meter-wide bicycle lane to create a functional, integrated space for pedestrians and cyclists.
He stated that the underground work, including the concrete work and the irrigation systems, is nearing completion. Public lighting will be installed in the final phase. The goal is to finish this section of the promenade by mid-May so it will be ready for the tourist season and operational for residents and visitors.
“We are here at the Lungomare 4 construction site, which is the western continuation of the Lungomare. This initial project is about 500 meters long and includes a 7-meter-wide promenade and a 2-meter-wide bicycle lane.
The project also includes a sand system. All underground work, concrete work, and irrigation systems have been completed. The lighting system will be installed afterwards. The goal is to complete and organize this section of the promenade by May 15 so that it is ready for use by Vlora citizens and tourists during the tourist season. “This is also a fourth phase, which will continue further and effectively connect the entire Lungomare,” explained ADF Director Agolli.
The project includes innovative elements in the organization of public spaces. For example, a multifunctional staircase can serve as a beach area in the morning and a recreational amphitheater in the afternoon and evening. These features create an attractive environment for relaxation and social activities. Additionally, plans include a red asphalt bicycle lane and around 250 parking spaces, and work is underway to increase parking capacity throughout the Lungomare area.
“This entire staircase can be used as part of the beach in the morning, and as an amphitheater space where citizens can relax or enjoy the sunset in the afternoon and evening. The lane will be made of red asphalt. There will be 250 parking spaces. Meanwhile, we are finalizing procedures for additional parking along the Lungomare. These are two major parking facilities for the Vlora area and tourist traffic,” Agolli further detailed.
Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized the importance of this investment for the city’s tourism development. Also, noted that infrastructure improvements must be accompanied by expanded parking to accommodate the growing number of visitors.
The “Lungomare 4” promenade is part of a broader strategy to transform Vlora, improve quality of life, enhance accessibility, and strengthen the city’s tourism potential.
