Minister Malaj Announces Albanian Development Bank to Finance Up to €1 Billion in Strategic Investments

Petrit Malaj, the Minister of Finance, detailed the progress of the Albanian Development Bank’s establishment process following the government meeting. This new financial institution is designed to provide support for strategic sectors of the economy and initiatives of national significance in order to facilitate the country’s development.
The Albanian Development Bank will be established with an initial capital of €100 million and the ability to generate financing in the range of €500 million to €1 billion, as per the minister. The institution will provide assistance to sectors that are underfinanced by the banking market or encounter funding challenges, as well as strategic government initiatives.
Agriculture and agro-processing, strategic infrastructure projects, social housing, innovation and digitalization, and investments that are intended to enhance energy efficiency are among the priority sectors that are anticipated to benefit from its financing.
Minister Malaj underscored that the establishment of this institution will enhance Albania’s financial market by increasing financing opportunities for sectors and projects that presently have restricted access to financial resources.
