Urban Renaissance 2.0 Brings Investments to Modernise Local Services and Infrastructure, Says Minister Demo

The Urban Renaissance 2.0 program’s priorities were outlined by Minister of State for Local Government Ervin Demo, who also announced a package of investments targeted at bolstering local government capabilities, with an emphasis on waste management, green transportation, water supply systems, and agricultural infrastructure.
In order to guarantee that the entire nation has access to the required waste management infrastructure, the Minister announced during the occasion that €150 million in investments are planned for waste management by 2030. He claims that the demand for a contemporary and sustainable waste management system has grown due to a rise in tourists, and that reaching this objective will necessitate close collaboration with all municipalities.
The program’s development of environmentally friendly transportation is another top priority. In order to improve urban and interurban public transportation, especially in communities with strong tourist traffic, Minister Demo revealed that €13 million has been set aside for a new program. The program will be funded by the Albanian Development Fund, and towns will be in charge of overseeing the service and have the chance to create transportation firms that adhere to contemporary, eco-friendly regulations.
The Minister also emphasized investments in the wastewater treatment and water supply industries, pointing out that projects totaling more than €100 million are presently being carried out. In order to guarantee a long-term solution for the industry, he continued, additional expenditures will be needed by 2030.
Minister Demo stated that procurement procedures for a €20 million fund secured with the cooperation of the United Arab Emirates have started in order to boost municipalities’ logistical capacities. He claims that the funds will allow towns to purchase cutting-edge machinery for upkeep of agricultural and rural infrastructure as well as for better emergency response.
The investment package also includes infrastructure related to agriculture. Projects totaling €94 million have already been planned, according to Minister Demo, but considerably more funding is needed to meet the nation’s demands.
