Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi Inspects Progress of Tirana-Durrës Highway Expansion

Enea Karakaçi, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, and Ami Kozeli, the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, examined the development of the Tirana-Durrës highway, one of the busiest roads in the nation.
The third phase of the project’s implementation has now begun. Work is currently concentrated on the portion from the Rinas overpass toward Limuth after the first six kilometers have been completed and opened to traffic. The road embankment is being built at a rapid speed, and the retaining walls have already been finished.
So far, around 30% of the anticipated work for this phase has been finished. According to Albanian Road Authority Director Ami Kozeli, the project include developing the infrastructure required to enhance connectivity throughout the corridor and extending the roadway to three traffic lanes plus an emergency lane.
“The roadway will be expanded to three lanes plus an emergency lane during this contract phase. It also entails building a new Kashar overpass, which will be 94 meters long and have a steel frame, and the Laknas grade-separated interchange, according to Kozeli.
As far as the Rinas overpass, traffic congestion has considerably decreased since the first six kilometers of the extended route opened. The goal of the third phase is to apply the same standard to Limuth, expanding the corridor’s capacity and enhancing traffic flow along one of the most congested road segments in the nation.
Minister Karakaçi called for the work to continue at a high pace in order to finish the interventions ahead of time, praising the progress made thus far and the mobilization at the construction site.
“We are now working to complete the expansion toward Limuth after the first two phases were successfully completed, as evidenced by the fact that traffic has been cleared with three lanes up to the Rinas overpass,” Minister Karakaçi stated.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy called for specific attention to concerns brought up by locals and companies using the highway during the inspection, particularly with regard to connections and access to the major route.
The building of pedestrian overpasses over the first six kilometers of the route was another topic of discussion. The minister claims that people’ earlier concerns have been addressed and that work on the pertinent interventions should continue as a top priority.
“Everyone is mobilized at the building site. We also need to concentrate on finding solutions to the problems that locals have brought up. The pedestrian overpasses at the Rinas interchange, which offer residents connectivity and have been a particular concern, should continue to be given priority, according to Karakaçi.
Increased traffic capacity and safety, less traffic, and better communication between Tirana, Durrës, and the surrounding areas are the goals of the Tirana-Durrës highway development. While the goal is still to expedite progress and finish the project ahead of time, the third phase will continue with an emphasis on finishing the expansion toward Limuth.
