Minister Karakaçi Says Photovoltaic Plants Supplied 30% of Electricity Consumed in June

Enea Karakaçi, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, announced that 30% of the electricity consumed in Albania in June was generated by photovoltaic plants. He added that a nearly identical level of production was recorded during the July–August period.
Karakaçi emphasized that solar energy is playing an increasingly important role in balancing the electricity system, particularly during the summer. This period is considered the most challenging for domestic generation due to drought and declining water levels in the Drin River cascade.
By the end of August, total electricity generation from photovoltaic plants had reached 868 GWh.
Minister Karakaçi stated that these figures demonstrate the effectiveness of government policies aimed at strengthening energy security by increasing domestic production and diversifying energy sources.
The minister emphasized that expanding photovoltaic capacity increases the resilience of the electricity system and provides Albania with greater energy independence.
This progress is part of the government’s strategic goal to make the country energy independent by 2030.
