A series of construction sites and projects have are underway to transform whole area of Spitalle in Durres Municipality. Many of previously ruined streets and infrastructure in this informal residential area built on a marshland are now undergoing complete urban requalification and, once complete, these projects will deliver on standards of a European city.
Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected some of other roads and streets currently undergoing various stages of their rehabilitation.
“We are now inspecting an important construction site. This is “Azem Hajdari” street that ends in the new post-earthquake residential complex. This road and the parallel segment, which has already been constructed by the Albanian Development fund, are two main arteries that will integrate the new residential neighbourhood in terms of movement infrastructure,” Durres Mayor Emiriana Sako said.
After the inspection tour, PM Rama met a group of local residents who indicated they feel satisfied with the way local urban infrastructure is changing. “It is much better than it used to be previously,” some of them said, whereas the government head assured them that the area’s future is very promising and highlighted a series of other projects due to be implemented locally.
“The area will become an amazing one and value of your properties will increase significantly as these are not simply houses for one to have a shelter only, but they are decent modern housing units and their value will definitely go up. We will also build the Manchester City Academy here. In the meantime the new residential complex is about to complete and quake-affected families will move to their new homes here soon. Efforts are now underway under the programme on building health care centres, schools and other educational and communal facilities. The new residential complex will also feature a large green area and value of the properties will soar. This is very important for you and for those who will inherit these properties. You will see for yourselves how the number of tourists will grow exponentially with the major Durres Tourist Port project, many other important investments in tourism here and in Lalzi Bay,” he said.
