Minister Hoxha: Safety in schools is one of the main priorities. We are implementing the “Smart City” project to increase safety

Today, Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha emphasized the importance of school security and the commitment to create an environment where students and teachers feel protected and safe.

During an event held at the “Kosova” school in Tirana, attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, Minister Hoxha outlined the key measures taken as part of the “School Security Package” initiative.

Additionally, Minister Hoxha introduced one of the major projects of “Albania 2030” concerning safety.

“Through ‘Smart City,’ we aim for a new standard in monitoring, controlling, supervising, and analyzing footage from streets, large public spaces, and cities, including schools. This project will further modernize the technological infrastructure of the State Police,” he emphasized.

Minister Ervin Hoxha speech:

Dear Prime Minister,

Dear Minister,

Dear School Leaders, Teachers, and Security Officers,

Dear students,

It is a privilege and a pleasure to address you today, at the start of this academic year, which marks a new phase in your intellectual journey.
A good education serves as a cornerstone upon which both individual and societal advancement is built.

The success of a trip is also closely associated with safety. It is essential that every student and teacher feels protected in the everyday school environment.

The “School Security Package” is an initiative now in its second year of implementation and consolidation.

The document was drafted with a clear objective: to guarantee that every educational establishment is a place where not only quality education is provided but also where the safety of all members of the school community is ensured. Furthermore, it sets out comprehensive measures designed to protect the entire school community.

We have currently increased the presence of police forces, both in uniform and undercover, in areas surrounding schools, with the goal of controlling and preventing any incident that might endanger the health and safety of students.

Security cameras and monitoring systems have been installed at the entrances and perimeters of school institutions to ensure that any incident can be prevented in time.

240 Security Officers, serving as the link between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education, the “eyes and ears” of the police in schools, are an irreplaceable chain and an added value in the safety of students.

Road safety for students, teaching staff, and the entire community is as important as public safety. Therefore, at the start of this school year, I have requested a different approach, focusing on traffic management and improving road signage.

I would like to inform you that the Albanian government will soon implement the “Smart City” project, one of the most important projects of “Albania 2030” in terms of security.
With this project, we aim to reach a new standard in the monitoring, control, surveillance, and analysis of street views, large public spaces, and cities, including schools.
This project will further modernize the technological infrastructure of the State Police.

Together, we are committed to building a safer and better Albania for future generations.

Thank you and best wishes for a successful academic year!
