The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, has arrived in New York to participate in a series of events during the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly (September 22-30, 2024).

Minister Hasani is expected to sign several agreements on mutual visa liberalization, aimed at strengthening the Albanian passport globally, one of the key commitments of the Albanian chief diplomat since taking office as Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Additionally, Minister Igli Hasani will hold bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Egypt, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Malta, Morocco, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Cyprus, among others.

During the High-Level Week, Albania, through the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will organize and lead several meetings in its capacity as a UN member and chair of regional initiatives such as the Adriatic Charter, the Central European Initiative, and the Southeast European Cooperation Process.

The High-Level Week kicked off yesterday with the “Beijing+30: Towards a World of Gender Equality” event held in New York, where Minister Hasani highlighted the Albanian government’s policies that promote the meaningful engagement of women in public life.

“Let us build a future where women and girls are empowered to reach their full potential and contribute significantly to the betterment of society. Together, we can create a more just, equal, and inclusive world for all.”

Albania’s priorities during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly will align with its contributions during its membership in the Security Council (2022-2023), and include the promotion of multilateralism, support for the 2030 Agenda, and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
