Albania and Poland Sign Social Security Agreement
The Social Security Agreement between the Republic of Albania and the Republic of Poland was signed in Warsaw, ensuring the mutual recognition of contributions and the protection of social rights for citizens who have lived or worked in both countries.
Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj signed the agreement alongside Polish Deputy Minister Sebastian Gajewski. The agreement provides for the recognition and totalization of insurance periods, the right to receive an old-age pension in accordance with the legal retirement age, and the preservation of acquired rights for citizens moving between the two countries. Every contribution paid in each country will be recognized under the agreement, and no period of employment will be lost.
Minister Ibrahimaj stated that the agreement aims to provide legal certainty and social protection for Albanian and Polish citizens by ensuring equal treatment and respect for rights within their respective social security systems.
It is Albania’s 11th agreement with a European Union country for recognizing pension periods and its 17th agreement overall in the field of social security. These agreements expand the network of social protection for Albanian citizens abroad. Currently, five additional agreements have been finalized, and three more are in the negotiation or preparation process.
Signing the agreement is a concrete step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation between Albania and Poland, as well as further aligning with European Union standards on the coordination of social security systems within the framework of Albania’s European integration process.
