At the end of Albania’s mandate in the UN Security Council, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, emphasized that Albania has played a dignified role, which has been appreciated by everyone, including friends and allies, as well as by civil society and international organizations.
“As Albania completes its first two-year term as an elected member of the Security Council, it is with immense pride that I share this final message from this Chamber, where over the past two years, Albania has worked together with other Members, and played an active role in the pursuit of international peace and security.
Guided by its principles and values, Albania has played a dignified role, which has been praised by all, including friends and allies, as well as by civil society and international organizations.
We did our part by taking over more responsibility, even if that meant standing up to big countries and global players.
On Ukraine, as co-penholder along with the United States, we defended the just Ukrainian cause because it was right, because it represents everything we stand for.
During these two years, we stood up firmly for the advancement of the Women Peace and Security agenda; for the full respect for international law, human rights, and accoubtability,
for climate change, cybersecurity, youth peace and security, and the advancement of the working methods of the Security Council.
Above all, we managed to bring a strong and credible voice in the Security Council, increasing Albania’s profile in the international arena, cementing our strategic partnerships, and fortifying our position as a reliable and active actor in the region and a trusted ally and partner within the European Union.
On this occasion, I would like to warmly thank my dedicated team in New York and the entire Albanian foreign service and, as Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, share with every citizen of Albania and Albanian everywhere, the immense honor to have carried successfully the two-year mandate in the Council in such momentous times, one of the most demanding tasks in foreign policy”, stated Minister Hasani.
