Artificial Intelligence in Public Procurement: Minister Ibrahimaj Says Albania Aims to Introduce It by Next Autumn
By the fall of next year, artificial intelligence is anticipated to be included into public procurement procedures in order to automate operations, cut expenses, and improve the quality and transparency of public services.
At the signing ceremony of a collaboration agreement between the UNOPS Office for Albania and Kosovo and the Centralized Purchasing Operator (OBP), Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj declared the goal. Ingrid Macdonald, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Albania, also attended the ceremony in Tirana.
OBP Administrator Jonaid Myzyri and Director of the UNOPS Office for Albania and Kosovo Sabine Kania signed the agreement titled “Procuring Together for a European Albania,” which calls for six months of UNOPS technical assistance.
The collaboration will concentrate on bolstering the OBP’s institutional capabilities, enhancing internal systems, and harmonizing procurement procedures with global norms. Additionally, it seeks to increase the use of technology and creative ideas in public procurement, as well as to establish strategic procurement.
The minister emphasized that digitalization and the use of technology are components of the public procurement system’s ongoing change, especially with regard to boosting transparency and combating corruption. In addition to highlighting the advancements in this field, she emphasized the significance of ongoing reforms and global collaborations to bolster institutional capabilities and raise public administration standards.
