On Lot 6 of the Outer Ring Road in Tirana, more than 70% of the construction has been finished. After the stabilizer layer is finished and the roadbed filling and excavations are complete, the asphalt layers should be installed. The section follows the Gjeroza stream, where retaining walls and other interventions were built to control and redirect the flow of water.
In order to guarantee that the entire project is prepared for vehicle circulation by the end of this year, work on this lot is moving swiftly. Belinda Balluku, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, and Gentian Gjyli, Director of the Albanian Road Authority, kept a careful eye on the work being done on the site.
“The progress is timely and satisfactory. More than 70% of the actual work has been finished. The protective wall and excavation processes are complete. ‘ Myslym Keta’s street junction, which will link us to the Arber Road and provide an entrance to Tirana, is almost finished. After the stabilization procedure is finished, asphalt layers could begin by the middle of October, according to Gjyli.
Balluku, the Deputy Prime Minister, underlined the need for the work to go quickly in order to finish this important project on time, not just for the capital. Balluku stated that all of the work ought to be available and ready by the end of the year, as per their agreement. “The Ring as a whole has a deadline that must be fulfilled this year. Because multiple lots are operating simultaneously here, cooperation between the parties is crucial,” according to Balluku.
Another issue in this project has been moving the power transmission and distribution lines, where the Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Distribution System Operator (DSO) are essential players. They acted quickly to prevent setbacks in the project’s advancement. This section of the road will have Category A status, high vehicle speeds, and urban features like lighting and vegetation.
“From “Shqiponja” to the Dajti roundabout, which links to another portion of the ring road that leads to the Bërryl area, TSO and DSO have been essential to the entire second section of the route. In order to relocate and even enhance some of the main lines (both distribution and transmission lines), both operators have to be a part of the working groups. Using ABC technology, we shifted the overhead lines to underground locations. There were no delays as a result of this good cooperation, and it must be noted that coordination between all components is essential in situations like these,” Balluku emphasized.
Lot 6 starts after the Tirana-Dajti Road roundabout and is 1.3 kilometers long. The streambed is crossed by the road, which is surrounded by a collector made of solid concrete.
