Coordination of Institutional Efforts for Enabling Diaspora Voting

Today, Minister of Interior Ervin Hoxha convened a technical working group with representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, the Central Election Commission (CEC), IdentiTek SHA, NAIS and the Directorate of Civil Status. The purpose of this meeting was to start improving the mechanisms that support the renewal of identification documents for voters living abroad. The Ministry of Interior has announced that voters living abroad will no longer have to apply for both types of identification documents (passport and electronic ID), resulting in a reduction in service costs.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs has initiated the relocation of consular services closer to Albanian citizens living abroad through the use of mobile consulates, thereby increasing the convenience of access to these services.

During the meeting, further inter-institutional measures were identified to streamline and improve the accessibility of the diaspora voting process.
