Declaration on reduced roaming charges, Várhelyi: Balkan citizens will feel at home while visiting EU

The European Union Commissioner for Enlargement and Good Neighbourhood, Olivér Várhelyi described the agreement on reduced roaming charges signed in Tirana on Tuesday as an opportunity to support the region’s social and economic development.

The EC Commissioner focused on the benefits for the citizens in the region under this declaration during a joint press conference with the Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
“The accord represents an opportunity to support the region’s economic and social development and we are doing it today by making mobile telephony affordable and accessible for all the citizens, as an essential element of any inclusive and successful digital transition,” Várhelyi said.

“The telecom operators have pledged to cut the roaming charges so that the Balkan citizens feel at home anytime they visit the EU member states, when it comes to the digital map. Citizens will begin to use it extensively,” the Commissioner said.
