Digital Identity, an Important Step Toward Albania’s Digital Transformation

Digital identity is another milestone in Albania’s digital transformation. Today, it was presented as a significant step forward in the modernization of the country’s technology, as well as its social and economic life.
These new developments will transform the fundamental relationship between citizens and the state by shifting identity from the physical realm to the digital realm. With digital identities, citizens will be able to sign documents, make payments, and perform secure transactions directly from their phones at any time and from anywhere.
The event also featured a demonstration of the Digital Identity system, with the Ministry of Interior playing a pivotal role in establishing standards for all Albanian citizens.
Albana Koçiu, Minister of Interior, stated that the digital identity project affects every Albanian citizen and represents a step forward that changes the way people interact with the state, with banks, with businesses, and with one another. “Digital identity is not a European obligation,” she said. “It is an Albanian necessity, a way to make citizens’ lives easier and more secure.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rama, who attended the project’s launch, said that Albania is already a regional leader in public services and innovation. “We strongly believe in the power of innovation. That is why we have committed ourselves to it, establishing Albania as a regional leader and creating a solid foundation for transformations in every sector,” the prime minister emphasized.
He added that what is being demonstrated today will be available to the public at the beginning of next year, including interactions between citizens and the state, as well as interactions with the country’s economy. This will once again put Albania at the forefront of implementing this digital innovation.
The project is not just an identification tool, but also the key to entering a new era of security and convenient services for Albanian citizens.
