After 15 years of discussions, the Italian Senate has approved the bilateral agreement between Albania and Italy on the recognition of social security contributions. This historic decision protects the pension rights of thousands of Albanians who have worked in Italy, as well as Italians who have worked in Albania.
The agreement ensures that no year of work will be lost, making it easier to collect pensions for old age, disability and family benefits, as well as sickness and unemployment benefits. This migration provides stability and a new perspective for some 550,000 Albanians in Italy and 4,000 Italians in Albania.
This is a significant achievement that promotes bilateral relations and supports workers’ rights by providing better security and social protection.
