The post-earthquake reconstruction process was successfully finalized for hundreds more affected families in the village of Marikaj, Vora Municipality, Tirana district, who from now on are the owners of a newly-built stronger, safer and more beautiful houses than the one they lost to the devastating earthquake few years ago.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the new residential complex of six apartment buildings constructed from scratch. The keys to 120 apartments were handed over the quake-affected families in the area.

“Thank you all for welcoming me! I am very pleased that this project was finalized. As you already know, we have been encountering property ownership issues and countless overlapping cases, but most importantly the project has now been finalized and you will be housed in much better homes than the ones you used to live in previously. This is what matters most. You will be housed for free, as we have already promised, and you are the legal owners of these apartments. You can live in them, put out for rent or sell them and you owe not a single cent to the state. You should of course pay the electricity bills. This is non-negotiable,” PM Rama told local residents, adding that entire reconstructed area will be equipped with highest infrastructure standards with recreational facilities for local community.
