Minister Demo Announces €65 Million Support Package for Local Government and New Approach to Urban Transport
Following the government meeting, Minister of State for Local Government Ervin Demo announced that, as part of the Normative Act amending the 2026 state budget, the government has approved a €65 million support package aimed at strengthening local government and developing infrastructure throughout the country.
According to the minister, the package includes €35 million to improve basic infrastructure across the country and €30 million to implement two priority municipal support initiatives. One of the projects calls for the construction of a logistics fleet in each county to help municipalities maintain agricultural and local infrastructure.
Minister Demo further stated that the package represents a new national approach to urban transportation. In collaboration with the Albanian Development Fund, the first pilot municipalities will move to a new model for organizing public transportation in 2026, utilizing electric buses and modern operational standards. According to the minister, the program intends to modernize public transportation, minimize citizens’ costs, and eliminate environmental pollution.
