Minister Ibrahimaj Presents National Single Window Platform to Facilitate Customs Procedures
Delina Ibrahimaj, the Minister of Economy and Innovation, presented the initiative to establish the National Single Window for Customs. This digital platform aims to modernize customs procedures, facilitate international trade for Albanian businesses, and reduce bureaucracy by accelerating import and export processes.
Minister Ibrahimaj stated that the new system will digitize customs processes and establish a unified electronic platform for submitting and exchanging international trade data. This platform will integrate the institutions responsible for issuing the necessary documents, permits, and certificates for import and export procedures. Ibrahimaj emphasized that the project “revolutionizes the way Albanian businesses conduct trade” by reducing administrative costs and increasing transparency in customs processes.
The platform is expected to simplify international trade procedures, reduce businesses’ administrative costs, accelerate customs clearance processes, improve inter-institutional coordination, and increase the transparency and integrity of the customs administration. According to the minister, modernizing procedures is important for Albania, as it is a transit country for trade flows toward the European Union.
The minister emphasized that the system will align customs procedures with European Union standards, improve the business climate, and support the growth of exports and the integration of Albanian companies into European and global supply chains. She added that Albanian businesses will benefit most from faster, more transparent, and less bureaucratic international trade procedures.
Implementing the National Single Window is part of the Western Balkans Trade and Transport Facilitation Project, which is financed by the World Bank. In Albania, the National Agency for the Information Society (AKSHI) will manage the system and integrate it with the e-Albania platform. The General Directorate of Customs will lead its implementation.
