Minister Ibrahimaj Says Albania Expands Social Security Agreements with Four More Under Negotiation

There are already 17 agreements struck with foreign nations regarding the recognition of social security contribution periods after Albania accepted a social security agreement in principle with Poland.
At a news conference after the Council of Ministers meeting, Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj revealed the draft resolution. She clarified that eleven agreements, including the one with Slovenia, had been inked with members of the European Union since the agreement with Poland was approved in principle.
The Minister claims that these agreements allow citizens who have worked in Albania and overseas to receive their social security benefits and have their contribution periods recognized.
The agreement with Italy, which was approved last year, is one of the most important, according to Minister Ibrahimaj. About 20,000 Albanian citizens have already benefited from the agreement’s recognition of their years of employment and social security contributions, she said.
Minister Ibrahimaj stated that Albania will keep growing its network of social security agreements in order to maintain this approach. Four more agreements are presently being negotiated, she continued, and will soon be presented to the Council of Ministers for review.
