Sustainable development and green finance were the topics of discussions between senior tourism and environment authorities, Minister of Tourism, and Environment Mirela Kumbaro during her visit to Baku.

Azerbaijan is the host country of the COP29 World Climate Summit this year under the theme “Green Finance”. During the meeting with Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, Minister Kumbaro announced that Albania is working on the submission of the National Climate Change Contribution to the Secretariat of the Convention. The two ministers also agreed on opportunities for cooperation on sustainable tourism models through protected areas and cultural heritage.

“I am very pleased with the meeting with the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, who will host this year the COP29 Climate Summit on the topic of “Green Finance” and where Albania is preparing for the presentation of the National Climate Contribution to the Secretariat of the Convention,” said the Minister of Tourism and Environment.

Minister Kumbaro also met with Fuad Naghiyev, Head of the National Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, where they discussed how to advance cooperation in tourism. Cooperation they decided during the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between our two countries.

In 2023, 3190 visitors from Azerbaijan visited our country, which is 130% more than in 2022. This is a fact that shows us the potential of the Azerbaijani market through the presentation of Albania’s tourist offer.
