Minister Lamallari Announces New State Police Unit to Investigate Environmental Crimes

Besfort Lamallari, the interior minister, announced the creation of a new division under the State Police that will concentrate on looking into offenses related to the environment. He urged a more proactive approach to wildfires and more thorough investigations into suspected instances during a meeting with local police directors from the nation’s 12 districts.
Minister Lamallari emphasized that police activity must continue even after fires have been put out in order to identify possible offenders, ascertain whether criminal violations may have been committed, and determine the causes of the fires.
In addition to using technology and forensic knowledge both locally and internationally, he believes that investigations into suspicious fires should be carried out in close collaboration with the fire department, Civil Emergencies, local communities, and the Prosecutor’s Office. The minister also emphasized the long recovery period needed and the substantial damage this year’s wildfires did, especially to forest resources.
