The Minister of the Interior, Besfort Lamallari, and senior officials of the State Police, presented in Durrës the measures taken to ensure order and security during the 2026 summer tourist season. The State Police, Border Police, and Maritime Police Unit will operate with increased capacities, modern technology, and full readiness throughout the season.
The State Police have developed a particular action plan to deal with the flood of visitors, with the goal of ensuring a safe and quiet season for both inhabitants and tourists.
Particular emphasis will be placed on maritime safety. Minister Lamallari declared that the Maritime Police Unit will be present along the entire coastline, with 35 water scooters, trained staff, rigorous patrols, and overhead monitoring with drones, to avoid incidents involving watercraft and promote holidaymaker safety.
The minister emphasized that the Maritime Police Unit, which was founded in 2023, has emerged as a vital entity for guaranteeing maritime safety. During 2025, this unit and the Border Police assisted 231 persons and 80 watercraft in distress, while inspecting over 5,600 watercraft and penalizing offenses that jeopardized the safety of tourists.
The Minister also announced that, via the use of technology and direct access to the TIMS system, the Border Police will streamline procedures for yachts, sailboats, and other vessels entering Albania, providing a speedier and more efficient service to promote marine tourism. Finally, Minister Lamallari stressed that the goal is to provide a professional service and ensure a safe tourist season in order to welcome people and tourists while also supporting the country’s future tourism growth.
