Operation to Repatriate Albanian Citizens from Syria Concludes
On August 26, five Albanian citizens, three youngsters and a 79-year-old woman, were returned from Syria as part of an operation organized by Albanian institutions to repatriate people who were in conflict-affected areas.
Minister of Interior Besfort Lamallari, Director General of the State Police Skënder Hita, National Coordinator against Violent Extremism Lejdi Dervishi, representatives of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and other organizations involved in the process welcomed the repatriated citizens upon their arrival at Tirana International Airport.
The returnees will receive the required support and go through psychosocial and medical evaluations after arriving in Albania. They will continue to be accommodated, rehabilitated, and reintegrated into society by the competent institutions.
Albanian institutions, diplomatic and consular missions, and the authorities of the participating nations coordinated the operation. The cooperation of foreign authorities, especially the Syrian government, in completing the procedures and enabling the nationals’ movement was acknowledged by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Besfort Lamallari, the interior minister, praised the organizations that made up the inter-institutional task group for organizing the operation and reaffirmed that efforts to repatriate other Albanian nationals who are still in Syria will continue.
