Prime Minister Edi Rama will take part in the 8th Summit of the European Political Community
Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama traveled to Armenia to participate in the 8th European Political Community Summit, which will take place on Monday, May 4, in Yerevan, the capital city. The summit aims to promote dialogue and political cooperation to address issues of common interest while strengthening the security, stability, and prosperity of the European continent.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Rama will attend the welcome dinner hosted by President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of the Republic of Armenia.
The summit will bring together 48 heads of state and government from across the continent under the theme “Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe.” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will also attend as a guest, marking the first time a non-European country has participated in the meeting.
In a time of profound geopolitical transformation, the discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation among European countries, coordinating actions to enhance democratic resilience, and advancing connectivity, as well as economic and energy security.
On Monday, at the opening of the summit, Prime Minister Rama and the Albanian delegation will be welcomed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
President of the European Council António Costa and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will co-chair the summit.
During the summit, Prime Minister Rama will attend the second informal meeting of the European Coalition Against Drugs (ECAD), co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The discussions will focus on strengthening the fight against drug trafficking, including maritime and port trafficking, as well as combating illicit financial flows, money laundering, and corruption. The discussions will also address challenges related to synthetic drugs in Europe.
A comprehensive approach that includes preventive measures, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery will be emphasized.
Prime Minister Rama will participate in a roundtable session co-chaired with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The session’s theme is “Strengthening Connectivity and Economic Security in the Context of the Green Transition.” The session will address specific steps to improve connectivity in the energy and digital sectors and ensure sustainable supply chains while minimizing dependencies within the context of the energy transition.
Participation in this summit reaffirms Albania’s commitment to being an active participant in European strategic discussions and to building a more resilient, secure, and united Europe.
