Prime Minister Rama Unveils “OSHEE Charge” as Albania’s New Step Toward Clean Energy and Sustainable Transport
“OSHEE Charge” is a new national project that introduces a public service for charging electric vehicles. This project is an important step toward clean energy and environmentally sustainable transportation.
According to Prime Minister Edi Rama, this positive development comes at a highly favorable moment for the energy sector, where innovation has finally taken hold and a difficult past has been left behind.
“This is very good news that comes at a highly positive moment for the energy sector. No longer does it operate under the terrible daily emergency of the past—those exhausting and unbelievable periods that, though not long ago, now seem like distant history,” said the Prime Minister.
Rama also announced another innovation for consumers:
“Today, we have this innovation, and I believe that within the next year, we will begin the transformative work for smart electricity meters with an initial order of around 350,000 units. By the end of this term, we expect to have completed the entire process, which will significantly reduce technical losses in the network and bring them below the EU average, while also improving billing accuracy for every consumer,” he stated.
The Prime Minister further affirmed that the energy sector is on the right path and that Albania will be an energy-sovereign country by 2030.
“I strongly believe we are on the right track and that OSHEE and the entire energy sector will continue to give us good news, strengthening the foundation for our path toward Albania 2030. The mere fact that Albania will be energy-sovereign by 2030 speaks volumes,” Rama said.
“OSHEE Charge” is only the first pilot phase. Three additional charging stations are planned to be built in Tirana immediately following this phase. The project’s main focus areas will be tourist zones, central transportation corridors, and border crossing points in particular.
