The sports movement in schools was materialized today with a basketball final game between the best performing teams from two 9-year-old schools in the district of Tirana, namely “Hilary Clinton” and “Dhora Leka” schools.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Kamza Mayor Rakip Suli and the Head of the Albanian Olympic Committee Fidel Ylli, attended the sport event.
PM Rama congratulated the wining school team that was awarded the symbolic cup of this event.
“I saw the game partially, but I didn’t really expect it to be such a hard-fought game, so beautiful and so equal game. Both teams deserved to win, but only one can win and today Kamza taught Tirana a lesson. So, I would like to congratulate the wining team for playing hard and patiently,” the Premier said.
On his part, Kamza Mayor praised this initiative as extraordinary.
“Around 300 boys and girls from Kamza municipality alone have joined the sports in schools project and we are here today thanks to this initiative,” Mayor Suli said.
For the first time, the government has earmarked a state budget fund to financially support the sports in school project. Various sport tournaments and events are reviving the the long-awaited national sports movement for students and parents, with about 700 volleyball and basketball school teams already created all over the country.
