The International Competition for the Transformation of the “Asllan Rusi” Sports Palace
An ambitious project will transform the space of the “Asllan Rusi” Sports Palace in Tirana, for which six finalist teams are competing in an international competition. The teams will present their architectural designs to an international jury.
Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the launch of the final phase today, where he said that the “Asllan Rusi” Sports Palace has long been a reference point in the country’s sporting history and now deserves a new form, strength, and attention.
“Once again, we are in an international competition for a long-standing idea, another ambitious project: the rebirth of the ‘Asllan Rusi’ Sports Palace. It has been a reference point in the long history of sports and challenges. In this new era, it deserves a new form, new energy, and renewed attention. I am confident that through this project, we will revive the irreplaceable spirit and energy of the Asllan Rusi space,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that this new project will transform the Palace and allow Albania to become a credible candidate to host European-level finals and matches.
“Today, Albania is at a stage where it aims high, even in terms of participating in international competitions. Hosting the UEFA Europa Conference League final was the culmination of Albania’s hosting of a series of international events. Hosting the finals of the European Champions Cup or the European Super Cup in basketball or volleyball is not unattainable. We have already contacted international federations that have expressed interest in our facilities. This sports palace project, which we hope to complete within a reasonable timeframe, will establish Albania as a highly credible candidate to host the highest-level European competitions,” said Prime Minister Rama.
