The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, hosted the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Trade of Malta, Ian Borg, in a meeting.
Minister Hasani praised the work of the Maltese side at the head of the OSCE.
“At the next OSCE Ministerial Council in Malta, on December 4-5, we see it as a priority that our discussions focus on fulfilling the main mission of the organization to improve peace and security in the region, especially on the eve of the 50- anniversary of the Final Act of Helsinki”, underlined Minister Hasani.
The two interlocutors also focused on Malta’s continued support for Albania’s European integration agenda.
“Our commitment to the membership agenda was confirmed with the launch of membership negotiations for the first group chapter. This was a long-awaited signal from the EU and the member states, emphasizing that the process must be based on merit and have predictability, so that enlargement regains credibility as one of the most successful policies of the EU”, said the Albanian chief diplomat.
The Chairman of the OSCE, Ian Borg, said that “A transparent, comprehensive election process in the OSCE region is the foundation of democratic trust. We remain ready to help Albania to advance key electoral reforms in accordance with OSCE/ODIHR standards and their recommendations”.
During his speech from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Borg, appreciated the role and work of Minister Hasani, during the leadership of the Permanent Council of the OSCE “You made extraordinary contributions to the OSCE in 2020, when you were in the chair of the Organization, navigating unprecedented challenges, including that of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite these obstacles, it was a very successful presidency, which actually strengthened our commitment in key areas of the Organization. And of course, it was supported by the leadership dedicated by yourself, Minister Hasani, at that time Chairman of the Permanent Council of the OSCE.”
