The newly built Daily Hospital near Tirana University Hospital Center provides specialized care for patients with internal diseases

The recently constructed daily hospital, which represents the second phase of the implementation of the master plan for the modernization of the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center, is now operational and equipped to provide specialized services to approximately 65,000 patients requiring treatment for conditions such as dialysis, toxicology, allergology, dermatology, rheumatology, and hematology.

The new daily treatment units contain the latest technology and new infrastructure with redesigned waiting areas to make the flow of patients and their family members easier, avoiding big influxes in the central hospital.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the new hospital with the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu. He saw several cabinets and pavilions and met with doctors who work there.

“The daily hospital offers outpatient services, hospitalizations that do are shorter than 24 hours. We are on the ground floor of a 3500-square-meter area. There are 60 beds and over 50 doctors who will provide services in this structure. This decision makes health services, especially outpatient services, more accessible.

“This optimizes all services and patient movement. It is for patients who need specialized services that do not last more than 24 hours, especially patients with chronic diseases. It limits the flow of movement in the central hospital,” explained the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu. She added that this infrastructure completes the rehabilitation of the central hospital. Modernization of the Tirana University Hospital Center will continue.

The central hospital is now fully rehabilitated. The Mother Teresa University Hospital Center is still being built. We are closing the cardiac surgery and pediatric hospitals. We are starting work on the psychiatry hospital. The 2025 budget will also invest in infectious pediatrics and burn plastics. This will complete the development master plan of the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center. It will establish contemporary conditions and more advanced services, said Minister Koçiu.

Prime Minister Rama expressed gratitude for the team’s accomplishments thus far and urged the medical professionals to prioritize comprehensive care for the patient, emphasizing its pivotal role in their humanitarian mission.

“If you invent a vaccine for disregard for patients, it would be good. I know the system better than someone who has only been to the hospital. Most doctors are great. They provide great service. However, a few bad apples can ruin it for everyone. We know how it was and how it is done. I can speak as a hospital patient who tried it and may come back. I have an inguinal hernia. I do not see a doctor because I work out and eat right. However, I cannot fix this hernia on my own, so I will go back to the doctor. I tell everyone to go to the public hospital. Some people say it was a first. Some people say its propaganda. I can tell you are fit. I hope I am right. Don’t spare these smiles on anyone who comes here for service. A doctor’s smile is more than a prescription. A doctor’s disregard removes 50% of the effects of the prescription,” said Prime Minister Rama.
