Construction crews have completed nearly 40% of the work on the new Thumanë-Kashar road project, a four-lane highway part of the Blue Corridor project connecting Albania’s north with the southern part.

The 20.8-km high-speed road, designed to meet highest road safety standards, includes construction of a series of overpasses, 11 bridges, 12 underpasses, as well as construction of access roads and emergency runways.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, inspected today progress of work on construction of this major national infrastructure project.

“This is the segment build built under the concessionary contract, part of the Thumanë- Kashari highway project, actually the first segment where construction work is full steam ahead as part of the Blue Corridor project. As you already see, work continues along entire stretch of the road segment and around 40% of the construction work has completed. A series of access roads will run parallel to the nearly 21-km long highway, which will be a toll road with a speed limit of 140 km per hour, whereas the access roads will be available to the motorists and local residents for free. Access roads will be built along entire stretch of the Blue Corridor segment to provide more transport and movement alternatives to the citizens.

The access road’s length is 16 km. This is a four-lane highway that meets highest safety standards and it includes two emergency lanes. The road lanes are 3.75 meters wide each. This Thumanë – Kashar highway project only includes also construction of 11 bridges, 12 underpasses. Connecting the road with the international airport is the most important part of this process, which will be coordinated with the Tirana bypass road project,” the Deputy Prime Minister Balluku said, adding that work is in full swing to make sure that entire project completes within 12 months.
