Opening Session of the World Law Congress Begins Tomorrow in Tirana, Focus on Justice Reform and European Integration
Tirana will host the opening session of the 2027 World Law Congress on May 6 and 7. This high-level event is organized by the World Jurist Association in cooperation with the Albanian Ministry of Justice and marks the launch of the global legal forum to be held in Albania next year.
The event will begin on May 6 with the “Honoris Causa” ceremonies, during which several Albanian universities will honor renowned figures in law and academia from around the world. The main session will take place on May 7 at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tirana and will feature representatives from international legal institutions, judges, and legal experts.
Justice Minister Toni Gogu will lead the opening session, and Prime Minister Edi Rama and the President of the World Jurist Association, Javier Cremades, will deliver speeches, placing Albania at the center of discussions on the future of the rule of law.
The program includes an audiovisual presentation on key developments in justice reform and Albania’s path toward the European Union. There will also be discussions on results achieved, challenges faced, and priorities for strengthening the rule of law in line with European standards.
A high-level international panel will discuss the past decade of justice reform and prospects for the next phase. Representatives from the European Court of Human Rights and other international institutions will participate.
The session will also announce new initiatives, including the establishment of a rule of law forum in Tirana, the adoption of the “Tirana Declaration on the Future of the Rule of Law,” and the presentation of expectations for the 2027 World Law Congress.
Hosting this event in Tirana acknowledges the progress made through Albania’s decade-long justice reform process and reinforces the country’s standing on the international rule of law agenda within the context of its European integration efforts.
