Agricultural Exchange to Provide Farmers with Greater Transparency and More Alternatives for Selling Their Produce
Through the Agricultural Exchange, a new system designed to boost market openness and competition while bolstering farmers’ bargaining power when selling their produce, farmers will be able to monitor and compare purchasers’ offers for their goods.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Andis Salla introduced the idea to construct the Agricultural Exchange, claiming that it would provide a more direct connection between farmers and market demand.
Farmers will be able to compare offers and select the best deal, while wholesale purchasers will be able to specify the products they are looking for as well as the quantity, quality, and price they are ready to provide through the Agricultural Exchange. Every day, farmers will have direct access to this data, which will link them to real market demand.
The minister claims that one of the issues brought up by farmers about the selling price of their produce is another reason for the creation of the Agricultural Exchange.
