Arben Kingji, Chief of General Staff, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in a special ceremony following a proclamation signed by the President of the Republic. Mr. Pirro Vengu, Minister of Defense, presented Lieutenant General Kingji with his rank.
In his speech, Minister Vengu hailed Lt. General Kingji as a distinguished general who has risen through the ranks with distinction and served effectively in a variety of challenging assignments. According to Minister Vengu, this is a historic time as the third star of the Armed Forces has returned after more than a decade and a half. The minister emphasized that the third star was awarded to Lt. General Kingji.
“Some may have followed his career since his time in Afghanistan, while others may have followed it since his command of the regiment in Poshnje, the Land Forces, or other critical positions representing the Armed Forces. In the few months I’ve known him, I’ve seen a man whose character serves as a guide in protecting national interests, advocating for the welfare of military personnel and their families, and driving the modernization of the Armed Forces,” said Minister Vengu.
The minister wished Kingji well in his duties and emphasized that his promotion serves as an inspiration to other career military officers who can also reach the pinnacle of their military careers with dedication, discipline, and selflessness.
“Some might argue that we have too many generals and not enough infantry. I don’t believe that. I see generals and officers as national assets who should be given the opportunity to contribute to state functions on a continuous basis, whether active or in reserve,” said Minister Vengu. He also stated that the 2025 budget is the most significant in the last two decades, ensuring that the military vocation remains an attractive option for young people.
Lieutenant General Arben Kingji expressed his appreciation for the recognition by the Minister of Defense, the Prime Minister, and the President. He expressed his special gratitude to the members of the Armed Forces:
“I would like to thank all the soldiers, non-commissioned officers, and officers with whom I’ve worked to achieve various goals. Given the issues, phases, and processes the Army has faced since the 1990s, such as modernization and reform, none of this would have been possible without their support. “Today, we are the most dignified and respected institution we serve,” said the Chief of the General Staff. He also highlighted the government’s recent decisions to improve the treatment of all members of the armed forces.
