€110 Million in Financing for Energy and Student Dormitories as Three Agreements with German Government Approved

Today, the Council of Ministers approved three agreements with the German government for the digitalization of the electrical transmission system, the renovation of student dorms, and the Vau i Dejës Hydropower Plant, totaling €110 million in financing, including €20 million in grants.
Minister of Energy and Infrastructure After the Council of Ministers meeting, Enea Karakaçi stated that one of the projects allows for the continuation of the energy efficiency program’s student dorm rehabilitation. The program will continue with the renovation of fourteen more dorms after the first five are finished.
The rehabilitation of the Vau i Dejës Hydropower Plant, which was constructed about 50 years ago and, according to the minister, produces about 28% of KESH’s electricity, will also be supported by the funding. The investment is anticipated to refurbish the plant’s assets, transformers, and SCADA system in addition to extending its operating lifespan by thirty years.
The Transmission System Operator’s systems at about forty substations will be digitalized as part of the third project. The goal of the intervention is to increase the grid’s capacity to include renewable energy sources and make it possible to manage electricity flows more precisely and dynamically. In addition to remote connectivity between the substations and the Transmission System Operator, the project will involve investments in SCADA and IT systems.
