PM Rama at conversation on projects designed to take Divjakë area’s development forward

Divjakë, a small beach town in west of Albania, is an area with huge potential for agriculture, tourism and economy. A series of important projects are planned in Divjakë in order to propel these sectors into development.

Prime Minister Edi Rama today visited the Municipality of Divjakë, where he joined a conversation with local government authorities on project ideas, which will pave the way for development while preserving the ecosystem and maintaining full balance with nature.

After a presentation made by the Divjakë Mayor Josif Gorrea, Prime Minister said that Divjakë will also set an example for other municipalities across the country.

Ahead of the New Year’s Eve, I and Erion (Lawmaker Erion Braçe) had agreed on holding a meeting with the Mayor, the State Minister for Local Government, the Director of the Albanian Development Fund and the Minister of Agriculture and, taking into account several elements which I think , have combined here, from the fact that, for example, correct me if I’m wrong, the municipality of Divjakë provides a number of public services itself, such as cleaning, to the fact that the Mayor comes directly from the agricultural sector, but not simply as one of many others, but as one of those who have spearheaded this development with their work and example, that is, he has a vast experience because he has dealt with the production, the collection, he knows the export well and he knows the international market well, – to the fact that we are at a very important moment, in general, we are witnessing the increasing interest in Albania, in terms of tourism. For some time now, we have made a point of promoting a model development on the beach of Divjakë, but a model development in terms of harmonizing the need for an accommodation infrastructure with the need to maintain the balance with nature, with the park that lies behind and others, and the fact that in partnership with the Development Fund we have had some smaller experiences in different municipalities of introducing investments with an economic logic, not just investing, but investments to generate income.

Given the area’s tremendous potential for development and taking notice of the fact that a lot of things have been done, but a whole development chain is needed to be in place in order to take Divjakë to a whole new level, the idea we have discussed with Erion is implementing a pilot project on local integrated development that would require collective commitment of the central and local government.

The project idea will certainly include the Development Fund, local community and business, and donors and all together will focus on building an integrated model that would serve us further in the process from which we will draw experience and set an example for other municipalities to follow.

Thank you.
