For the Medical University of Tirana alone, an investment of 500,000 euros in the infrastructure for scientific research

The Minister of Education and Sport, Ogerta Manastirliu, was at the Medical University of Tirana for the inauguration of two important investments financed by the Ministry of Education and Sport through the National Agency for Scientific Research.

The projects “Digitalisation of the Virtual Dissection and Restructuring of the Anatomy Laboratory” and “Digitalisation of the Histology Laboratory” have been implemented with a fund of approximately 35.5 million ALL and aim to modernise the Normal Anatomy and Histology Laboratories at the Faculty of Medicine. These projects aim to improve the didactic infrastructure, raise the level of teaching and meet the needs of scientific research in the fields of Applied and Clinical Anatomy and Histology-Embryology.

“For us, it is very important to develop the aspects related to scientific research infrastructure and didactic infrastructure, as well as the quality of teaching. We believe that these three components are best implemented in the policy of the Albanian government at the Ministry of Education and Sports. We have increased the investment funds for scientific research by more than 40%, and we can already see these projects materialising right at the University of Medicine. Our challenge is to expand capacities and to keep the promise of 500 new quotas for students who will study at the University of Medicine with the highest standards. We will have new laboratories funded by the Scientific Research Fund. For the years 2024-2025, there are three new projects for the University of Medicine, which will undoubtedly improve the quality of teaching and didactics in a practical format,” said the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu.

Minister Manastirliu also said that investment in the development of scientific research infrastructure is the focus of the Ministry of Education and Sports.

“Just for the University of Medicine, for the infrastructure and for the projects, there are over 500 thousand euros that will be disbursed this year in order to develop medicine and science in the country. They are all related, but above all they are opportunities for students to come closer to their dream of becoming future doctors and to have skills related to global and digital aspects,” Manastirliu said.

The investment will benefit around 1,300 first and second year general medicine students, as well as pharmacy, public health and dentistry students. It will also benefit around 1,000 specialists in 34 long-term specialisation programmes. This investment will also facilitate the teaching process, teaching practices and the realisation of master’s and doctoral theses, thus further promoting scientific research.
