Significant advancements have been made in the construction of the Ura e Cereneci-Peshkopi road segment. The completion of this segment will result in the finalization of the Arbri Road, thereby reducing the distance between Dibra and Tirana. The initial phase of the project, spanning the first two kilometers, has commenced with the laying of the first asphalt layers. The remaining portion of the project is currently in progress. As a result of this intervention, the distance is reduced by approximately 2.5 kilometers in comparison to the existing road, Maqellare-Peshkopi.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, monitored the progress of the works in close collaboration with the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Gentian Gjyli, and the Mayor of Dira, Rahim Spahiu.
In his presentation of the completed works at the site, Director Gjyli stated that, with the conclusion of the excavation phase, it is unlikely that any further issues will arise that could impede the progress of the remaining works. At the time of writing, the first two kilometers have been completed, with the first layer of asphalt and binder laid. Furthermore, the project is progressing well with regard to the incorporation of artistic elements. The two bridges associated with this undertaking are nearing completion. Gjyli also announced that the 29-meter bridge has been completed and that preparations are underway for the 18-meter bridge.
Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku, expressed her approval of the project’s advancement, noting that the travel time from Tirana to Peshkopi will be reduced. “With the completion of this road, it is anticipated that a significant impediment to accessibility will be permanently resolved. While initial reactions were positive, with the road from Peshkopia to Tirana reducing from six hours to two and a half, the new route will facilitate an hour and a half journey,” stated Balluku.
Additionally, the minister made an appearance at Rruga e Arbri, another significant undertaking for which the majority of the work is concentrated in the Murriz tunnel. The investment in infrastructure is attracting visitors to Dibër and stimulating new investment in the region. “This December of 2024 will also mark the completion of the Arbri road, effectively closing the Murriz tunnel. This is a significant milestone, particularly given that we are already nearing the completion of the arming of the entire tunnel. The remaining 400 meters are the last to be completed, and with the completion of the armament, the rest of the electromechanical works, the laying of the base, and all other remaining tasks are no longer a concern for us,” Balluku stated.
In addition, Mayor Spahiu stated that the influx of investments, particularly in infrastructure, has led to a significant advancement across the entire region of Dibra. Furthermore, the proximity to Tirana has already transformed the area into a destination that is consistently attracting an increasing number of visitors.
