Minister Igli Hasani’s Conversation with Journalists Following “Diplo 2024”

During a briefing with journalists following the conclusion of the Ambassadors’ Conference, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, emphasized that the Albanian government is redy for the second intergovernmental conference with the European Union.

“We are ready, and we have been ready for a year. The first set of chapters is completed, and we’re prepared for the next two groups. Our negotiating team is working to ensure that political obstacles do not disrupt the technical agenda. I’m optimistic that this fall will see significant developments, allowing us to progress rapidly towards the EU,” he stated.

Minister Hasani highlighted the Ministry’s increased focus on Albanians in the region, with the establishment of a new directorate dedicated exclusively to all Albanians in the region, as well as the mapping and composition of diplomatic representations around the world.

He also announced the opening of new embassies in India, Indonesia, and Kenya to strengthen Albania’s diplomatic presence.

While discussing the upcoming summits scheduled to be held in Tirana, Minister Hasani remarked that Albania is in a moment that must be maximized.

“We are in the phase of internal preparations, identifying venues, funds, and personnel to make this possible. This shows that Albania is an important partner and an indispensable ally in the overall efforts of the North Atlantic organization in light of current events.”

According to Minister Hasani, Albania’s EU membership, the 2030 agenda, as well as the country’s positive moment in tourism and economy, require maximum engagement from our representatives worldwide. Presenting the new law on the foreign service, the Minister said that this law would energize diplomacy.

“We must leverage the best of our people, the best of Albanians wherever they are, and that is the purpose of this law. I’m confident it will offer a golden opportunity to a talented new generation of diplomats who will drive our country forward, with or without us in our current roles,”
emphasized Minister Hasani.
