Minister Koçiu Presents 2025 Health and Social Protection Budget, 5% Higher Than Last Year

Albana Koçiu, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, presented the Ministry’s 2025 budget proposal to the Committee on Labor, Social Affairs, and Health. The budget is a record 103 billion and 375 million ALL, 5% more than the previous year.

“This budget is an important step in the transformation of the health and social protection sector in Albania and aims to provide sustainable support for the improvement of services and the achievement of universal health coverage,” said Minister Koçiu in his speech. She also stated that efforts to improve working conditions and compensation for health care professionals will continue, including increasing the salaries of doctors, nurses, and other health care workers and improving working conditions to give our health care workers greater respect.

Additionally, Minister Koçiu emphasized that this budget funds 7.6 million primary healthcare visits in addition to initiatives to combat serious illnesses like diabetes. Additionally, it will help treat 317,000 patients in the nation’s second-tier hospitals.
According to Minister Koçiu, investing in healthcare infrastructure is another important aspect. Plans include large-scale initiatives like building the Regional Hospital in Korça, rebuilding other hospitals, and updating medical equipment for hospitals across the nation. “This budget aims to further strengthen the health system and social protection by providing more services and support for Albanian citizens,” explained Albana Koçiu, the Minister of Health and Social Protection.
